Aluminium framing is the material of choice for these highly exposed areas due to its ease of maintenance and proven durability under all environments. It is important however that certain protections are applied to the aluminium frame and glass to ensure easy maintenance throughout its lifetime and excellent durability in the face of harsher marine environments.
You must ensure in these environments that all aluminium framing is powder coated to marine grade standards. This is currently classed as a powder coating of no less than 60 microns thick. This ensures that there is adequate colour coating over the aluminium framing to protect it from corrosion and damage from the external marine environment.
All Hedgehog aluminium windows and doors come with a marine grade powder coat as standard so there is no need to worry that your windows and doors will not be able to withstand these harsher environments.
It is also important to keep in mind the higher levels of rain and wind that exposed properties in these areas might be required to withstand. Please read our article about weather testing to understand these classes in more depth.
